Wacky Wednesday

In Paihia school we did  Wacky Wednesday, Wacky Wednesday is a day everyone dresses up in something funny, crazy and do their hair if they want to. My favourite part of Wacky Wednesday was seeing everyone costumes. I think that the whole school is dressed the best because we all look wacky. Alana sprayed her hair with blue and yellow and put her clothes inside out anika died her hair red and blue. Have you guys ever done Wacky Wednesday? What did you dress up in?

The Amazing 2021 Marble Run

In Te Ngahere we have been making marble ramps. We did this activity because we were trying to use the scientific method. Something I learnt was how to measure properly. I think I did really well with making the instructions. Something my group didn’t do well was communicate. When we finished making the ramp and instructions we got to do the competition it was really fun, first we had to put our instruction in a box then we had to put our names in a box. The teacher picked a name out of the box then she picked the instructions out of the other box, the people whose name got pulled out had to test the peoples ramp that that got pulled out. What points do you think they got?

The EPro8 Challenge

In Te Ngahere we have been doing EPro8 challenges while the year 7&8’s were at tech. I learnt about 2 types of energy one is kinetic energy and the other one is potential energy. kinetic energy is when something doesn’t stay still it moves potential energy is when something stays still. We had to make a device that could shoot something at least 3 metres high before hitting the ground. We do EPro8 challenges because it makes people collaborate and work together. My group worked good together this went well because we communicated and listened to each other's ideas instead of getting angry. Next time instead of voting for the best idea we could combine all the ideas together. We also need to work on reading the success criteria properly. Do you read the instructions everytime?

Direction Failure

In Te Ngahere we did a test about if we can follow directions, Whaea Becks said that we were doing a reading test, she gave everyone a piece of paper with the test on it and told everyone not to flip it over until she said. We had 4 minutes to do the test. The point of the test was to see if we could follow instructions. The first instruction was read everything carefully. I thought that I could read the instructions while doing them all carefully. When I got to the 23rd instruction it said now that you have read all the instructions only do instruction 1 and 2 and then draw on the back of your paper. I felt annoyed because I didn’t read the first instruction properly, instead I started doing all of the questions. If this was a Success Criteria we would all fail. In the future I will know read things carefully. Do you think that you could do this test?

The Amazing Smart Surfing

In Te Ngahere we have been learning about Smart Surfing. Smart Surfing is when you have a question but you only use the keywords in your sentence on Google. First we watched a video that told us what Google does when you type something up on Google. I learnt that when you type a question on Google like “how fast does a Cheetah run?”, you could say “Cheetah running speed” because those are the keywords. When you type “how fast does a Cheetah run”, the Spiders in Google look at every page that have the words how, fast, does and run. That is why you only type the keywords so you have things that actually relate to what you are looking for. In the future I will now only type the keywords up on Google.
